Primera semana en España -Martin-

This is the first week since I got to Spain and I must say it´s really hot here! The temperatures now are same as summer temperatures in Czech Republic. Well, that´s one of the first expressions. But the others are also important. For example people are really kind here and the kids I work with are really friendly and I am having a lot of fun with them. Also everyone understands that I don´t speak Spanish very good so far and they have patience if I can´t express myself.

To start talking about my first days. On Saturday we went to the market Feria de semillas y productos locales in a small town nearby and it was really funny because I wasn´t used to Spanish yet, but at last I knew basic colours and some easy words so I managed to talk to the kids. On Sunday we had paella in Torre de Gall. We were there with our mentors and our coordinator. I really like my mentor Octavio, I think he has really great taste for humour and Alba – Natalia’s mentor is great as well. I am looking forward to spend more time with them. It was really time well spent and I tasted snails for the first time in my life!

First days at local primary school were really great. I befriended with the teachers I am working with and I think the kids like me as well. Physical education is a lot about games but it´s fun and I enjoy it. English classes are really great, I love seeing kids learning foreign language. In my experience it´s really useful to know English, especially if you like travelling. Classes in the preschool are mostly about having fun, singing songs and painting pictures. Even though the kids don´t understand longer sentences I think it´s good to speak to them in English and then translate. In my opinion it will be easier for them to learn English when they are older.

I also need to learn Spanish if I want to survive this :D. So far I only had one Spanish lesson, but I think it went well. I also try to learn in a free time I have and I think I make quite good progress. Fingers crossed I will talk Spanish soon. At this point I understand simple conversation, but if I want to talk, I just can´t find the right words. However, I think this is just first stage of learning and everyone has to go through it. I just need to hold on and never give up.

So that would be summary of the first week, see you later.

Oh, did I mention that people are really kind and I love it here? I did? Well, I had a feeling I had to tell it once again.
